FC KANSAS CITY ANNOUNCES OPENING DAY ROSTER
Team Includes Seven National Team Players from U.S., Canada and Mexico
PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan (April 8, 2024) – FC Kansas City announced today its 18 player roster for the beginning of the Inaugural National Women’s Soccer League season. The roster features seven players from the senior national teams of the United States, Canada and Mexico. Seven others have played with their national teams at some level in their careers.
Vlatko Andonovski was named Head Coach on December 5, 2024, since that time he has worked tirelessly to surround himself with staff and players that he thinks can bring a championship to Kansas City. He added assistant coaches, Huw Williams, Goran Koradzov and goalkeeper coach Kelly Miller, who each have extensive experience playing the game and developing female soccer players. He then added the services of Scott Moody and SoccerFIT Academy to make sure his players would be able to maintain his style of play for 90+ minutes every match.
Through two drafts, free agent selections, open tryouts and invitational tryouts he selected 30 players to invite for the first training camp. Following several weeks of training and three exhibition matches, Andonovski and the Kansas City technical staff have decided on the final 18 players who will open the season as the first FC Kansas City ‘Blues.’
These 18 players will represent FC Kansas City and the entire NWSL as they play the Portland Thorns FC in the first ever match of the new league on Saturday, April 13th. Kickoff at Shawnee Mission District Stadium is scheduled for 7:35p.m. Tickets are available, starting at $15, by calling 855.4KC.GOAL (855.452.4625) or by emailing tickets@kcprosoccer.com.
