KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 23, 2024) – Eight months after battling for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) title, FC Kansas City and the Seattle Reign FC met on the field for the first time this year with Amy Rodriguez scoring the only goal of the match to give the Blues a 1-0 victory over coach Laura Harvey’s team in front of 2,466 fans at Swope Soccer Village on Thursday night.

“First of all, I want to thank my players,” FC Kansas City head coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “They gave everything on the field. Also, I want to congratulate Seattle on putting on a big fight. We are really happy with the result.”

The Blues came out to the field with a different formation with Sarah Hagen on top next to Rodriguez and Buczkowski as the lone center midfielder. The visitors’ offensive mindset almost hurt Kansas City early in the match when Megan Rapinoe reached the box but a great tackle from Leigh Ann Robinson kept the game scoreless in the fifth minute of play.

It was not until the 36th minute when Rodriguez nearly notched a goal but her shot was denied by the crossbar. Both teams headed to the locker rooms with a 0-0 score on the board.

Five minutes into the second half Rodriguez received a ball from Hagen before chipping it over Solo who was unable to make the save giving the Blues a 1-0 advantage that would remain until the end of the match.

Throughout the second half, both teams created offensive opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net despite recording 10 shots each.

Next up, the Blues will head to Texas, as they will visit the Houston Dash at the BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday, May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. CT.
