RECAP: SHEA GROOM SCORES GAME-WINNER IN FC KANSAS CITY’S VICTORY OVER BOSTON ON THE ROAD
Midfielder Erika Tymrak scored her first goal of the season 26 seconds into the match.
BOSTON, Mass. (July 9, 2024) – FC Kansas City’s midfielder Erika Tymrak scored her first goal of the season with twenty-six seconds into the match, two minutes later the Boston Breakers tied the game. However, after a hard fought contest in front of 2,525 fans at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium, the Blues left with three points following a 3-2 road victory.
Liberty, Missouri native and rookie Shea Groom left the pitch in crutches with an injured right ankle after a collision with goalkeeper Jami Kranich in the 83rd minute. Moments earlier, Groom scored the game-winning goal (her fourth of the season) when she got out ahead of the defense and shot a left-footed ball that hit the left post before crossing the line.
Rookie goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland started and played her second game of the season, while amateur call-up and Kansas University product Caroline Kastor recorded her first start as a professional.
With left than one minute remaining in the first half, Tymrak notched her second of the night and the season with a right-footed rocket off a beautiful play by Groom.
The second half was just as dynamic with both teams creating offensive opportunities. However, it was former FC Kansas City player Kristie Mewis who found the back of the net in the 60th minute to tie the match at two with a first-touch shot to the far right post assisted by Maddy Evans.
After assisting Tymrak on both goals, Groom got one of her own in the 79th minute when midfielder Jen Buczkowski set her up with a great pass to seal the victory.
Next up, FC Kansas City will return home to Swope Soccer Village on Monday, July 20 when the Blues host the Houston Dynamo with all four World Cup Champions available for selection.
