KANSAS CITY, Missouri (July 28, 2024) – Following a hard fought 1-1 tie at a sold out Swope Soccer Village last Monday, FC Kansas City (5-5-3, 18 points) and Houston will face off once again in the last of three regular season meetings on Wednesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports GO and can also be followed on Twitter at @BluesGameday.
Different from the Houston Dash, FC Kansas City had the weekend off. On Saturday night, Coach Randy Waldrum’s team earned a crucial road victory at Sahlen’s Stadium where FIFA World Cup final MVP Carli Lloyd scored the lone goal against the Western NY Flash. The victory placed Houston fifth with an overall record of 4-4-5, 17 points.
Earlier this season, the Blues visited Houston and left BBVA Compass Stadium with three points on Saturday, May 2 after a 2-0 victory with goals from Liz Bogus and rookie Shea Groom, who is still recovering from a right foot injury. Coach Vlatko Andonovski’s team leads the All-time series 3-0-2.
FC Kansas City is in the midst of a three-game unbeaten streak after shutting out the Washington Spirit 3-0 and snatching a 3-2 road victory at Harvard University earlier this month. With last Monday’s draw against the Dash, the Blues will look to add another victory to their record. Kansas City’s last loss came at the hands of the Seattle Reign FC on June 27 at Moda Pitch Stadium.
Forward Jessica McDonald leads the Dash with five goals followed by Lloyd and Kealia Ohai with three. On the other hand, FCKC is led by Groom with four goals and two assists followed by Liz Bogus with three tallies and Erika Tymrak with two.
On the road, FC Kansas City has an overall record of 3-3-1. The team’s three victories were at BBVA Compass Stadium (Houston), Sahlen’s Stadium (Western NY) and Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium (Boston). The Dash are 2-2-2 at home this season recording wins against the Washington Spirit on April 10 and the Western NY Flash on June 20.
Next up, FC Kansas City will play its second to last road game of the season when the Blues visit the Chicago Red Stars this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT.
