PREVIEW: FC Kansas City heads to New York to take on the Flash
KANSAS CITY (July 23, 2024) -- Two of the National Women’s Soccer League’s most competitive teams meet for the 10th time this Saturday night with the series lead on the line at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. The game will start at 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on the league’s YouTube channel.
Western New York won the first matchup 1-0 this year at Children’s Mercy Park on April 16, but the teams are tied 3-3-3 all-time.
The Blues fell 3-2 at home last Saturday to the Washington Spirit with goals from Frances Silva and Shea Groom. It was Groom’s third goal in the last two games and fifth this season, which ranks third in the league.
The Flash played to a 1-1 draw with Seattle Reign Fc and Jessica McDonald scored her fourth in four games. She has four assists as well in that time.
The Blues will be playing without Becky Sauerbrunn and Heather O’Reilly, who played in Friday’s U.S. Women’s National Team sendoff match. It was the team’s final tune up before heading to Brazil for the Rio Olympic Games. Desiree Scott and Katie Bowen will also make the trip with Canada and New Zealand, respectively.
FC Kansas City will face a familiar foe in Western New York Flash goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland, who was traded from the Blues earlier this season.
The Blues will play one more game before the Olympic break on the road in Chicago.
