PREVIEW: FC Kansas City to play season finale in Orlando
KANSAS CITY (Sept. 24, 2024) -- FC Kansas City heads to Orlando to take on the Pride in the final game of the 2024-16 National Women’s Soccer League regular season.
Neither team will advance to the postseason, making this the first year of four the defending champions will not reach the semifinals. The Blues topped Seattle Reign FC in 2024 and 2024 to win the title. They lost to eventual champion Portland Thorns FC in the 2024 playoffs.
The Blues carry a three-game unbeaten streak into their final match with victories against Chicago and Sky Blue and a draw against Chicago on Sept. 11. Shea Groom, Frances Silva, Yael Averbuch and Tiffany McCarty have contributed goals in that span.
Groom is the team leader with eight goals in 18 games and half of her 46 shots have been on-goal this season. Averbuch and Silva are the only other players with multiple goals, scoring three and two each.
FC Kansas City won its only other match against the Pride in late May 2-0 with goals from Averbuch and Erika Tymrak.
