FC Kansas City Heads to New Jersey for Second Time This Season

KANSAS CITY (July 7, 2024) – FC Kansas City is looking to get back on the winning track as they travel this weekend to Piscataway, New Jersey to take on Sky Blue FC. The team is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 p.m. CT.

This is the second time FCKC will travel to New Jersey to play Sky Blue FC this season. The first time the two teams met was on April 30th as the Blues lost 1-0. NWSL 2024 Rookie of the Year Raquel Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game in the 83rd minute.

Right now the Blues (3-5-4, 13 pts) are tied for seventh place in the league while Sky Blue FC (6-6-1, 19 pts) sits only six points ahead in fourth place.

FC Kansas City is currently looking for their first positive result since a draw against Seattle on June 24th, however, they have had success against Sky Blue FC in the past. Kansas City currently leads the overall series with five wins and four draws against only three losses. The two teams met last season on September 4th, 2024 with the Blues winning 2-1.

The Blues played earlier that season at Yurcak Field on June 11th, 2024 and tied Sky Blue FC 1-1. Kansas City native Shea Groom scored for FCKC in the 27th minute.

Shea Groom scored her first goal of the 2024 season on Sunday night as the Blues fell 2-1 to the Houston Dash. Groom scored off a left-footed shot from a ball crossed in by Christina Gibbons. Groom’s goal was nominated for Goal of the Week.

Also over the weekend, Sky Blue FC beat the North Caroline Courage who is currently ranked number one in the league. Forward Samantha Kerr scored the winning goal in the 84th minute. That was Kerr’s sixth goal of the season.

Kerr is tied for second place for most goals scored in the league. Her teammate, Sarah Killion, is currently tied for fourth place in the league with five goals.

The Blues will be missing midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta due to a red card suspension.
