FC Kansas City in Playoff Hunt on NWSL Game of the Week
Blues to host Chicago Red Stars on Lifetime TV National Broadcast
KANSAS CITY (September 8, 2024) – FC Kansas City hosts the NWSL Lifetime Game of the Week this Saturday as they face the Chicago Red Stars at 2:30 p.m. CT. This is the second time these two teams have faced off in the past three weeks, with FCKC winning 3-1 in Chicago last time.
While some thought the season was lost for FC Kansas City last month, the team has put together quite the successful run since the beginning of August. The Blues have earned points in five of their past seven games, scoring 13 goals in that run.
Last week the team scored four times against Sky Blue FC, while holding Sam Kerr, the NWSL scoring leader, to only two shots on goal and no scores. The win kept the team’s playoff hopes alive as they are only nine points out of playoff position.
Chicago has been in good form recently too. They have won four of their last five games, with the lone loss coming to Kansas City. They are led by Sofia Huerta and Christen Press. Press leads the team with ten goals on the season, while Huerta has four assists.
With the Orlando Pride drawing with the Seattle Reign on Thursday night, the Red Stars can clinch a spot in the playoffs with a win.
The Lifetime Game of the Week begins at 2:30 p.m. CT, with the broadcast on the Lifetime Network and the Lifetime App on iOS and Android platforms. Tickets for the game are available to purchase here.
