FC KANSAS CITY LOOKS TO EXTEND UNDEFEATED STREAK
Blues Hope to Maintain Second Place
PRARIE VILLAGE, Kan. (June 12th, 2024) – FC Kansas City (6-4-3 21 pts) will be visiting the Houston Dash (3-7-1 10 pts) on Saturday, June 14th. A 2-0 win over the Boston Breakers last weekend gave the Blues a step up in the National Women’s Soccer League table. A win on the road will help close the gap between Kansas City and first place Seattle Reign FC. Houston hosts after a 2-1 win over the Western New York Flash on Wednesday. Kick off at BBVA Compass Stadium will be at 8:00 PM Central Time on Saturday.
Last week, FC Kansas City hosted the Boston Breakers resulting in a 2-0 win. The match continued a shutout streak against the Breakers after a 2-0 win in Boston. Both goals of the match were penalty kicks credited to Lauren Holiday. Amy Rodriguez was fouled just inside the box in the 14th minute. Holiday stepped up to take the kick on Breakers’ goalkeeper Alyssa Nasher. She read Naeher and put the ball out of reach to put the Blues up. The second kick came when Erika Tymrak was fouled in the box during the 35th minute. Tymrak tried to take the middle of two defenders and was tripped up in the process. Holiday took the other side of the net for her second goal of the night. This match saw more minutes for Amy LePeilbet who returns from a knee injury and rookie Mandy Laddish saw her first professional minutes in the NWSL.
Houston faced off with the Western New York Flash on Wednesday. The Dash earned the 4th win in franchise history with a 2-1 win at home. Tiffany McCarty and former Blues player Teresa Noyola were the goal scorers for the Dash while Adriana Martin took credit for the Flash’s goal. McCarty’s goal came when she stepped in to a Flash defender for the ball, turned and fired a shot in the 40th minute. Flash’s Angela Salem received a caution just before the goal after a tie up with Kaylyn Kyle. The resulting free kick almost went in, but there was not enough bend. Zerboni sent a long ball to Martin who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper for the Flash’s goal in the 62nd minute of the match. Houston answered just minutes later when Noyola took a penalty kick when Kyle was fouled in a box for a rough bump from a Flash defender. Noyola’s goal in the 65th minute would be the pinnacle of an exciting match.
The Blues and the Dash have two meetings in the books for this season. The first, a 4-0 win for Kansas City in Houston and a 2-2 draw in Kansas City. The match in Houston saw Frances Silva’s first professional goal, Tymrak and Liz Bogus’ firsts of the 2024 season and Rodriguez added another to her count. In Kansas City, Tymrak scored again on Houston while Holiday took credit for the other. With an aggregate goal score of 6-2 in favor of the Blues, the Dash’s defense will have to toughen up to stop Kansas City’s offensive attacks. The United States called some big FC Kansas City names in to camp, it will be up to players like Tymrak and Silva to step in to scoring roles in Houston. The Dash will be missing two defenders due to national duty. Rookie Sara Keane will get a start in goal on Saturday for the Blues. A win on the road for FC Kansas City will create some space away from Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars who trail by two points in the standings.
Kick off at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston is slated for 8:00 PM Central Time. The game will be streaming online at fckansascity.com/live-feed/. The Blues return home next Saturday to host the Chicago Red Stars on Verizon Wireless Field at Durwood Stadium at 7:00 PM Central. For tickets to all home matches, call 855.4KC.GOAL.
