PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS. (July 9, 2024) – FC Kansas City has acquired a third round pick in the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League College Draft from the Houston Dash. In exchange, Houston received forward Melissa Henderson.

“All of us at FC Kansas City wish Mel the very best of luck with Houston.” Technical Director Huw Williams said. “She has shown nothing but the utmost professionalism while with out club.”

The Notre Dame product caught the coaching staff’s attention while playing with the Boston Breakers in the WPS Elite League in 2024. Henderson appeared in 22 matches and started 16 in her time with the Blues. A strategic player, Henderson tallied 14 shots over two seasons. She scored her first NWSL goal in the 2024 playoff match against Portland Thorns FC.

The New Ms. Williams

In other FC Kansas City news, Nia Williams has taken a teaching job in the Kansas City area. The Roeland Park, Kan. defender will now be a reserve player for the Blues. Williams will still train with the team and play an important role.

“At the beginning of May an opening came up, I decided to apply for the job. This was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made.” Williams said on her decision. “I was torn because I was going to be leaving one of my dreams for another. I am truly grateful that I was given the opportunity to play for the city I grew up in.”

Williams appeared in 9 matches throughout her time with FC Kansas City and started in 4. She coaches for the FC Kansas City youth club team and helps with camps throughout the summer. She completed her degree in education at Missouri State University in May.
