PREVIEW: FC Kansas City to host Portland Thorns FC in Swope opener
KANSAS CITY (April 21, 2024) — FC Kansas City returns to Swope Soccer Village on Saturday night for round two of the Blues’ 2024 season opener.
The first took place at Children’s Mercy Park last week and resulted in a 1-0 loss to the Western New York Flash. Though the Blues are 0-1 for the fourth time in four seasons, the two-time defending National Women’s Soccer League champions went to practice on Monday determined to even their record.
FC Kansas City’s first guest at its permanent home will be Portland Thorns FC, which won its season opener against the Orlando Pride on Sunday. The Thorns are led by U.S. Women’s National Team players Tobin Heath and Meghan Klingenberg. Dagny Brynjarsdottir and Lindsey Horan scored in the opener with assists from Heath.
The Blues went 5-1-3 at Swope Soccer Village last year and 1-0-1 against the Thorns. FC Kansas City leads the all-time series 5-3-1 and the two squads have met twice in the NWSL Playoffs.
The game will start at 7: 30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on the league’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5E688L4Ug4.
