CHICAGO (May 5, 2024) – The National Women’s Soccer League and Coppertone®, the official sunscreen of NWSL and U.S. Soccer, will be honoring mothers everywhere as players and fans celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend at all five NWSL games. Coppertone® is manufactured and marketed by the Consumer Health Division of Bayer.

The festivities will start with four matches Saturday night. Christen Press and the Chicago Red Stars travel to face Kristie Mewis and the Boston Breakers at Jordan Field. The Red Stars are in search of their third straight victory, while the Breakers are looking to avoid a seventh consecutive loss and fifth straight shutout.

Diana Matheson leads the Washington Spirit against Portland Thorns FC at Maryland SoccerPlex in a battle of the league’s two remaining undefeated teams. Matheson is the league’s top scorer with three goals so far this season and will be one of several stars on the field Saturday night as she and forward Crystal Dunn (three assists) go up against Tobin Heath, who has had a hand in every one of the Thorns goals this year to lead the NWSL with four assists.

Sky Blue FC and the Western New York Flash also renew their rivalry Saturday night at Yurcak Field. The Flash eliminated SBFC from the 2024 NWSL Playoffs and will be looking to leapfrog their opponents in the standings when they take the field. SBFC ended Seattle Reign FC’s 22-match unbeaten run at home in the first match of the year behind goals from Tasha Kai and Kelly Conheeney, but have yet to return to the win column. Likewise, Samantha Mewis and the Flash won their first game but are still in search of their second victory.

Elsewhere Saturday night, Becky Sauerbrunn and champions FC Kansas City will look to get their title defense off the ground when they host Kealia Ohai and the Houston Dash at Swope Soccer Village. The back-to-back champs have struggled out of the gate with two losses and a draw in their first three games, while Houston will want to rebound from a two-match winless streak after topping the Orlando Pride in Week 1.

On Sunday, the Pride go on the road to take on the Reign at Camping World Stadium as former Thorns player Alex Morgan prepares to battle against her old rivals – now as the face of the NWSL’s newest club. Seattle comes into the contest as winners of their last two matches with goalkeeper Hope Solo posting back-to-back shutouts and midfielder Kim Little scoring in each game.
